Are you out of work as a freelance writer?
Are your work volumes nowhere near where they should be?
Are you on a break from writing for clients?
Even when you don’t have work, it doesn’t mean that you should not be working.
My recommendation is to use the time you have now to do all those things you always wanted to do but could not, such as improve your skills or market yourself better.
I am a new mommy who has had to back off from committing to steady work because I don’t know which days I will have time and when I won’t. But I am better for it. Being an out-of-work writer has given me the leeway to sit back and think about doing things differently.
For instance, never having written in the segment of ‘Pregnancy and Childcare’, my own experiences as a new mom have inspired me to jot list potential blog topics that could be of interest to parenting websites. I have also written a couple of blogs to prove my writing ability in the segment. I am in the process of approaching various parenting websites for becoming an article contributor. Once I start working full-time, I will also start pitching for projects on Elance( now Upwork) involving similar topics.
I have also for the first time since I started my Facebook page, scheduled posts three weeks in advance. It’s great to finally see some traction on my page in terms of reach and likes.
To keep me focused on my business promotion agenda, I have designed this infographic, aptly titled ‘Business Promotion Checklist for the Out-of-Work-Writer’. I hope you will find it useful as well.
You don’t have to do everything at once. Schedule some time during your day to do at least one of these. Plan your business promotion steps for the coming weeks and months.
